To say that the Dexateens are my favorite band would not really say much. This music connects me to all things southern and all that moral complexity I was born into. Red clay, pine trees, state lines, public displays of faith, reinventing yourself in a higher moral standing and hopes of "going home where the water is high and the sun is peaking" after death. They even sing about Libertarian fiat money principles: "That dollar will deceive you, hard cash will never leave you." These lyrics and mostly dissonant but sometimes sweet major pentatonic double stops and note beds all work to connect me with the only place I've ever known and the people I've met here, but not quite ever fully understood. There is intellectual truth in this band. There is legitimacy because within their songs, they accurately represent the actual, moral, and musical ground on which they stand.
